Why we made MyFoodways
You’d be forgiven for burying your head in the sand when it comes to food. Eating well isn’t as easy as it sounds, especially when the media is constantly championing the latest superfood, or blasting the newest dietary villain. That’s why, here at MyFoodways, we’ve done the hard work for you. We aim to cut through the noise with our well-researched recipes, balanced portions and wholesome ingredients. Eating well doesn’t need to be complicated.
1. We believe in the power of plants.
Plant-based foods, whether fruits, vegetables, legumes, wholegrains, seeds or nuts, offer more nutritional bang for your buck and tend to be kinder on the environment. All MyFoodways recipes contain at least 1 portion of your recommended 5-a-day. What’s more, many of our recipes that do contain meat can be substituted for vegetarian alternatives.
2. Enjoy animal products in moderation.
Animal products tend to have a higher environmental impact and reducing your intake of red and processed meat, in particular, has been shown to benefit health. That’s why at MyFoodways we believe less is more. You’ll find plenty of recipes for meat and fish fans, easily substituted with vegetarian alternatives if you fancy reducing your intake. Our storage tips will also show you how to make the most out of the animal products you buy.
3. Cooking from scratch needn’t be difficult.
Highly processed foods are often packaged in plastic and contain added fat, salt or sugar, leading to decreased nutritional value. That's why MyFoodways is all about making it easy for you to cook simple recipes from scratch - so you're in control of what you eat.
4. Variety is the spice of life.
That’s why we like to incorporate different colours, flavours and textures into our recipes - they’re not only tastier, but also help you enjoy a varied and balanced diet, full of the freshest produce that the season has to offer. Stay flexible with our handy features for exchanging ingredients, depending on what you feel like, what’s in season and what you have in the cupboards.
We think the best meals feature a little bit of everything and that’s why all of our recipes are developed in line with international dietary advice. All of our portion sizes are flexible, so you can adapt them to the amount of people you’re cooking for tonight, with serving sizes adjusted for adults and children.
Eat the seasons
If you tell us you’re interested in eating seasonally, we’ll suggest delicious recipes made with the freshest seasonal ingredients. Click on individual ingredients to find out when they’re at their best. Eating with the seasons reduces the energy needed to grow and transport food and is often tastier and more nutritious, because it’s travelled fewer miles to reach your plate!
Waste less, spend less
Globally, a staggering one-third of food we buy ends up in the bin, and the average UK household chucks out 20% of the food they buy. Of course, nobody sets out to waste food but when life gets busy, it’s easy to forget about the leftovers lurking in your fridge. If you tell us you’re interested in reducing your food waste, we’ll recommend recipes that use the ingredients you’ve already got in the kitchen. We’ll also give you tips on how best to store ingredients so that they stay fresh for longer, and how to make the most out of your leftovers.
